Collaborated Art Project by

I will be so pleased to receive you as participant to my artistic project “Overall” in Nantes, France.
Please come to my Alstom Studio in Nantes and join us with making so big clothes of U-Boat! Our studio is open to everyone from 16th, May to 8th, June, 2009.

Plenty of useless clothes collected from citizens will be united one another into a giant overall for U-Boat. Producing the overall which also literally means “from stem to stern” can enable us to reconstruct experiences of building and embarking on U-Boat at the present day. The finished overall will be exhibited as ship without being worn as clothes by the original U-Boat. Instead, citizens and staffs who have participated in producing it will put it on as crew. Their task is making the overall which is like cast-off skin of U-Boat closer to the original shape of that through wearing it collectively.

Des vêtements inutilisés à foison, collectés auprès des citoyens, sont assemblés pour former l’enveloppe géante d’un bateau. La fabrication de cet Overall, qui signifie aussi «de la proue à la poupe», nous permet d’évoquer l’expérience d’une construction et d’un embarquement sur un navire. Habitants de la cité et membres du groupe l’ayant construit, la porteront en tant que membres d’équipage. Leur tâche est de rendre l’ensemble, comme une mue du navire, proche de la forme originale en la portant collectivement. La combinaison finie sera exposée comme un navire.

市民から不要になった衣類を集め、それらを繋ぎ合わせてUボートのための服を作る。オーバーオール（overallには「船首から船尾まで」の意 もある） 作りを通して、Uボートの造船と乗船の経験を現代に再構築する。完成したオーバーオール＝服は、実物のUボートに着せられることなく、オーバーオール＝船 として展示される。市民や服作りに参加したスタッフが、乗組員としてオーバーオールを着る。抜け殻のようなオーバーオールをUボートの形になるように着こ なすことが乗組員の仕事である。




＊My workshop and exhibition ”Overall: U-Boat” are conducted as one of collaborated projects by 8 members from Tokyo University of the Arts and Ecole Regional de Beaux Arts de Nantes. The same members will exhibit their works at Ueno Town Art Museum, this October, in Tokyo, Japan.
＊今回のナント・ビエンナーレESTUAIREでの作品展示は、東京藝術大学とナント芸術大学の交流事業の一環として企画されたものです。10月半ばから始まる上野タウンアートミュージアムでも、同メンバー（東京4名とナント4名）による作品制作と展示が行われる予定です。
